The Beacon to the Future committee raised the needed funds for Phase I and II on June 30, 2008 thanks to an anonymous challenge matching grant of $1,000,000 that was met. Construction was to start immediately; however, asbestos was found to still be in the building. With all parties working together; city and county officials, library committee, and construction manager, all asbestos was removed and construction began in the month of October, 2008. The library is on target to move into its new facility in August, 2010.
